In the heart of Dacia, Romania, the former parsonage has evolved into a vital educational and community center run by Jonathan e.V. and Copiii Europei e.V. for the past 20 years. This sanctuary of learning has opened its doors to 15-20 children from diverse ethnic backgrounds, including Roma, Hungarians, and Romanians. Here, in this nurturing environment, children not only receive a compassionate and mindful education but also the essential security of not being marginalized. Importantly, they benefit from a daily warm meal, which is crucial for their health and well-being.
Our inclusive school project has garnered recognition, notably receiving the Radebeuler Courage Award. This accolade highlights the importance of providing a voice and opportunity to the quiet and often overlooked individuals in our society. It is a testament to our commitment to fostering a safe and supportive environment for these children, where they can thrive academically and personally, free from discrimination.
However, we face daunting challenges that threaten the continuity of this valuable project. Over the years, we have undertaken various renovations to preserve our historic building, which is under heritage protection. Recently, we encountered a significant issue: a severe water damage caused by an aging roof. In the summer of 2022, we had to address this crisis immediately. A crucial supporting beam was partially replaced, and the ceiling in one of the sleeping rooms was professionally taken down by a dedicated volunteer group from Germany. While this repair was essential, it also illuminated the pressing need for a complete roof renovation to prevent further damage and ensure the safety of our children.
Now, we are at a critical juncture. To secure the future of our school project and protect the children’s learning environment, we urgently need to replace the roof. The estimated cost for materials alone amounts to approximately €30,000, with an additional €30,000 required for the necessary labor. These figures may seem daunting, but every little contribution counts. We are reaching out to our community, asking for your support in this crucial endeavor.
